Who would have thought that content makes up only 7% of communication? Your gestures and tone of voice speak far louder than words! According to Mehrabian’s Rule, here’s the breakdown:
👉 Only 7% comes from the content
👉 38% from paraverbal elements (tone of voice, intonation, speed of speech)
👉 A whopping 55% from nonverbal elements (gestures, facial expressions, body language)
Participants at our recent Sinlei workshop for VIA Outlets were surprised by how little content contributes to communication. So, what can you do about it? 🤔
1️⃣ Consistency: Ensure that verbal, paraverbal, and nonverbal cues align. Mismatches can lead to mistrust and misunderstanding.
2️⃣ Emotional Intelligence: The ability to recognize nonverbal and paraverbal signals is crucial for effective communication.
3️⃣ Active Listening: Pay attention not only to what is said but also to how it is said and what nonverbal cues are present.
